The 13th season of the annual Dragon Boat Festival kicked off on Sunday.
Edmontonians gathered at Rafter's Landing (9734 - 98 Avenue) for some basic instruction on paddling and steering the two ton, 40-foot-long boats on the turbulent waters of the North Saskatchewan.
Teams (containing 20 paddlers, one steersman & a drummer) and individuals can sign up to take part in the "end-of-summer" race on the festival's website: EdmontonDragonBoatFestival.com.
Organizers say, "Brute strength is an asset, but only those teams who work together are victorious." and warn that, "The race is meant to push both the mental and physical prowess of a team". (ccg)
